Mining

The continuously growing mining sector, new extraction technologies and processes, and the strict regulations adopted by more countries, all have contributed to make this sector an interesting target for Geosynthetics manufacturers.
The Geomembrane is used as a barrier to protect the soil and ground water in case of leakage of contaminants and preventing the loss of minerals and assets.
The Geomembrane will be used in:
- Heap Leach Pads, as it is the widely used method for recovering minerals from low-grade ore from open pit mines. The Geomembrane layer will capture the mineral-rich solution, preventing it from getting filtrated into the ground, and lead it to a collection area.
- Tailing Dams are one of the most critical applications for Geomembranes as the dam will be used to store mine dumps, with a high chemical and contaminant content. The tailings can be liquid, solid, or a slurry of fine particles, all materials refuse and left over after the process of separating the valuable fraction from the gangue.
- Evaporation ponds in salt mining operations, to recover salt from the brine solutions. The sun (helped by the low depth of the pond) will then evaporate the water, and leave the salt ready for collection.
